‘Twas the class before Christmas and all through the school all the teachers were searching for something to do!
Sound like a familiar situation? Your students have their work completed and exams taken. Holidays are just around the corner and you need one more lesson to send them off on a positive note. Well look no further.
In the true spirit of giving and the holiday season the Pearson Teacher Training Team for Spain and Portugal have come up with a few ideas that will put a smile on your students’ faces and save you some time so you can maybe get in a just a little more holiday shopping to boot.
These varied and enjoyable Christmas activities designed for adult and teen learners of English are the focus of our Christmas Webinars (slides available here) which are taking place this week. They can be easily adapted for different levels or mixed, matched and changed to your liking or particular needs. WORKING WITH PICTURES: MY ADVENT CALENDAR
OBJECTIVE: Practice speaking skills and use language for description and questions.
Other: ICT, culture and interpersonal skills (learning from others).
AGE GROUP & LEVEL: teenagers and adults, any level.
A CHRISTMAS TALK FOR YOUR CLASS OR SCHOOL
OBJECTIVE: Practice speaking and listening while learning interesting Christmas trivia and American and British cultural information.
AGE GROUP AND LEVEL: teenagers and adults from intermediate to advanced.
OBJECTIVE: To learn Christmas vocabulary and traditions and food vocabulary. To practice speaking skills, such as describing or narrating. To engender creativity, to have fun!
AGE GROUP & LEVEL: Teenagers, adults. Generally intermediate +, but the exercises are adaptable – the production activities will require more language support for lower-level students.
MERRY CHRISTMAS: A 19th CENTURY CONCEPT
OBJECTIVE: Infer personality from the character’s language and actions, build up personality adjectives vocabulary and a final production exercise (speaking).
AGE GROUP & LEVEL: teenagers and adults, from B1 (although it can be adapted)
BEYOND JINGLE BELLS: A CHRISTMAS RAP
OBJECTIVE: Build up Christmas vocabulary, rhyming (pronunciation), cooperative learning, creativity, fun.
AGE GROUP AND LEVEL: Teenagers, at least B1
OBJECTIVE: To learn Christmas vocabulary, to practice speaking such as comparing and contrasting or making predictions, to have fun!
AGE GROUP & LEVEL: Teenagers, adults. Low intermediate, production activities may require support for students of lower levels.
OBJECTIVE: To get to know some of the most relevant and best known traditions / symbols in both the UK and USA.
AGE GROUP AND LEVEL: teenagers / adults, any level.
